Mainholm Lodge - Quality accommodation and dining in West Otago, New Zealand.

"There is more to life than increasing its speed." Gandhi

Sauna – a timber lined private room for two, reserved for guest use. Use our fragrant oils to relax after a hard day exploring the area.

Gardens – read that book you’ve been looking forward to on the sun warmed veranda or under a shaded elm tree.

DVD collection – there’s a great selection of drama, comedy and classics and of course our very own ‘The Returning’ feature film. Many guests have enjoyed seeing Mainholm on film prior to it’s restoration in 1990.

River Track – take the farm track to the Pomahaka river and stroll along the bank or cast a line into a pool and try your luck with the trout or sea salmon.

Croquet - our lawns are just perfect for a friendly game of croquet on a summer’s afternoon (equipment supplied).

Petanque – gravelled areas offer a contrast to the lush lawns for this classic French game which is so easy to master (equipment supplied).

Pets – our two cats Tibby and Milly love a bit of fuss and attention. Try calling our pet livestock and feeding them by hand.

Shearing & stock rounding – our neighbouring farms are usually more than willing to give guests an opportunity to have a go at sheep shearing or rounding up sheep (seasonal & by arrangement).

Walks – a stroll along the nearby Pomahaka forestry river walk or for the more adventurous a climb into the Blue Mountains through Whisky and Black gullies is rewarded with spectacular views and pristine native bush and fauna. Look out for the rare and spectacular flocks of the Mahua (native bush canary) on the Blue Mountains. Marked routes are available.

Mountain biking – challenging mountain rides are available on forestry and DOC marked routes. Guests are able to hire a mountain bike from Mainholm.
